Process Engineer

The Process Engineer will support the design, development, and optimization of surface facilities across Fervo’s portfolio of geothermal energy developments. This role will contribute to project assessments and initiation, working as part of multidiscipline teams to advance early-phase project development and brownfield optimization efforts. The Process Engineer will collaborate closely with maintenance, operations, and subsurface teams to ensure safe and efficient facility performance. This position will report directly to the Senior Process Engineer.
Responsibilities
Technical & Execution
- Lead design & specification of Organic Rankine Cycle power plant facilities, including upgrades to production facilities, pipelines, and well-pads
- Develop core deliverables: process design basis, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, simulations, and engineering calculations
- Engage with equipment suppliers to optimize designs and act as process lead in major contract negotiations
- Support commissioning, performance testing, and start-up of new or modified facilities
Safety & Collaboration
- Conduct Risk Assessments, PHAs, and Incident Investigations/Learning Teams
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance safety, operability, and maintenance
- Provide impartial feedback and collaborate with teams & vendors to ensure compliance with codes & standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or related engineering field
- 3+ years of process engineering experience
- Experience with process operations and Control Philosophy/Narrative design
- Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., Aspen, HYSYS, Pro II, ProMax) and interpreting engineering drawings (P&ID, PFD, HMB)
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, with strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
Location
Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Reno, NV, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston or Reno offices will be required. Travel is required for this position.
